Maybe you have a story idea, a rough draft or outline, or maybe you are just interested in learning about writing books for kids. Maybe you are curious about the benefits of self vs traditional publishing. Maybe you want help with your query package. These are some of the reasons you might want to set up a children’s book consultation with me. In one focused conversation, we’ll get to the heart of what your project needs, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence. Whether you’re just starting out, deep in revision, or ready to talk publishing, I’m here to help.
What We Cover in Your Consultation
No two consultations look exactly the same, because no two manuscripts do either. Here’s a sample of what authors bring to our calls:
- Is my story idea strong enough?
- I’ve written a draft. What’s working, and what isn’t?
- How do I know if my picture book is ready to submit?
- My middle grade novel needs work; can you help?
- What’s the difference between traditional and self-publishing, and which is right for me?
- I want to query an agent. Can we look at my query letter or synopsis together?
- I’m new to children’s book writing. Where do I even begin?
Before our call, I’ll review up to 1,000 words (30-minute session) or 2,500 words (1-hour session) of your manuscript, query, synopsis, pitch, outline, or other materials for one project, or one submissions package.
Why Work with Me?
I’ve spent more than fifteen years editing children’s books. I specialize in picture books, chapter books, and middle grade novels, and I’ve edited hundreds manuscripts for authors at every stage, from first draft to final polish.
Book Your Consultation
Two options, depending on how much time you need:
30-Minute Consultation — $180 This is the best option for a single focused question, a quick gut-check on your manuscript direction, or a first conversation if you’re brand new to children’s book writing. Submit up to 1,000 words of material in advance.
1-Hour Consultation — $240 This is best for a deeper dive into your manuscript with more focused feedback, query package review, publishing path decisions, or if you want to cover multiple aspects of your project. Submit up to 2,500 words of material in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a finished manuscript to book a consultation? Not at all. Many authors come to me with just an idea or an early draft. A consultation is a great way to get your bearings before you invest months in a manuscript that may need redirecting.
What should I send before the call? Send whatever is most useful to you — a partial manuscript, a full picture book draft, a query letter, a synopsis, an outline, or a combination. I’ll review up to 1,000 words (30 min) or 2,500 words (1 hour) in advance.
How soon can I book? You can book directly through Calendly using the links above and choose a time that works for your schedule. Or, you can contact me directly below.
Is a consultation the same as a full developmental edit? No, a consultation is a focused conversation and a great starting point, but it doesn’t replace a full editorial review of your manuscript. If after our call you’d like to move forward with full editing services, I can walk you through those options.
What if I just have a quick question? Feel free to contact me first. For simple questions I’m happy to point you in the right direction.
If you don’t see the book you want on the shelves, write it.
