Perfect for individuals new to the art of writing picture books, these workshops will be open to 12 participants.

What is an Online Picture Book Writing Workshop
Have you always wanted to write a picture book? This online writing intensive is perfect for writers new to the picture book format. We will read picture books, we will write picture books. We will revise and workshop picture books. This online course is an accessible way to learn all you need to know about how to start writing your own picture books while working with a small group of students.
Participants will be able to submit a picture book manuscript ahead of time to workshop over the course of the weekend. There will be three information sessions, relaxed critique and revision sessions, and an optional meet and greet session before the workshop begins.

Manuscript Assessment Add-on: Workshop participants will have the opportunity to add-on the option to submit a revised manuscript to Jenny following the program to receive an assessment and a one-on-one follow up call to discuss the revisions and ask questions. $210
Online Workshop Schedule
Thursday July 17 or Friday September 12
- 6 – 7pm Eastern Time – Optional Online Meet and Greet
What: Take time to meet me and the other registrants.
Friday July 18 or Saturday September 13
- 9am – 11:30am Eastern Time – Workshop: Picture Book Standards + Breakout Critique Session
What: Learn market and conventional standards for picture books, such as word and page counts, types of picture books, and how to use story structure, plot and character arcs, and language to craft your book
- 11:30am – 1pm – Break
- 1pm – 3pm – Workshop: Revision Tips and Tricks + Breakout Revision Session
What: Learn tips for tackling revisions such as assessing read-aloud quality, paginating dynamic page turns, how to trim excess words, and other useful tips and tricks
Saturday July 19 or Sunday September 14
- 9am – 11am – Workshop: Self vs Traditional Publishing
What: Learn the differences between self and traditional publishing, when you should and shouldn’t commission illustrations, and how to decide which path to take.

What: Ask Me Anything!
Optional: Before the workshop participants may submit one picture book manuscript
Online Registration Info
Registration Fees include:
- Opportunity to submit a picture book manuscript ahead of time
- All Saturday and Sunday Workshop and Writing Sessions
- Optional Meet and Greet on Friday Night
- Optional Ask Me Anything Session on Sunday Afternoon
Registration fees are $480/person.
A 50% deposit is due at time of registration to reserve your spot; the remaining 50% is due two weeks before the course begins.
- Add-on: An editorial assessment of your revisions and a 1-hour follow up call after the retreat (must be used within three months) $210/person
This workshop is open to 12 participants. Participants are responsible for attending sessions during all scheduled times; sessions will NOT be recorded. All times are EASTERN.

I am a children’s book editor with over twelve years experience editing and writing children’s books. When I’m not writing or editing, I love spending time at the beach in coastal North Carolina where I live. This workshop is open to 12 participants. I hope you’ll join me!
