Are you looking for curated, one-on-one guidance with your writing journey? I’m here to help – and I’m thrilled to offer children’s book mentoring sessions.
Writing can be a solitary act, but it doesn’t have to be. Working with critique groups and partners, participating in workshops, webinars, and forums, and hiring an editor are all great ways to network, write, and work with other kidlit creatives. But sometimes authors need that little bit of extra guidance, and that is what these mentor sessions are for.
Who can benefit from mentoring sessions?
Some reasons you might benefit from children’s book mentoring sessions are…
- you are stuck on an idea and not sure where to go next, or even where to start
- you are brand new to writing children’s books and would love a helping hand along the way
- you are in the query trenches and need a boost
- you are seeking professional feedback on your career path as a kidlit author
- you simply need a place to vent, share your journey, and receive support and guidance
My mentor package includes four, one-hour sessions over the course of four or eight weeks – we will meet weekly or every other week, depending on your preference. After signing up, you will receive a short questionnaire to help me better prepare for our first meeting. During our first session we will discuss your goals short and long term, your project(s), and how you would like to focus the remaining sessions.
Do I have to submit materials?
Mentees may submit a full or partial manuscript (up to 5000 words), or up to three picture book manuscripts ahead of time, if they prefer. While this is not an editing session, the submissions are meant to familiarize me with your writing. Submission materials may also include a query letter, outline, or synopsis. This is not a requirement to benefit from a mentor package. I am best suited to serve authors writing picture books, chapter books, and middle grade novels.
